The firmware reached the Debian repos after the stretch freeze, so it was too late for Debian 9. Otherwise you may need to manually update it whenever a newer version is available. The firmware entered Debian after the freeze, so it isn’t possible for it to be in stretch.

The ar is the only libre software usb wifi card. Ath99k you may need to manually update it whenever a newer version is available.

I just gave you the instructions, just run those commands. The problem is that the adapter does not light up and I get no connection. Because I don’t use Debian stable, I cannot test it right now. I also get error messages about the firmware for the integrated WiFi card but that is because the firmware for it is missing. Also, I would suggest getting a newer version deblan the firmware by installing firmware-ath9k-htc from Debian sid main.

First, remember that Debian is run by volunteers. I mean, anyone can edit a binary file, but you wouldn’t realistically expect anyone to modify the software that way.
